Prepare for MBTA Orange and Green Line Closures in Somerville  The MBTA is suspending service on the entire Orange Line and part of the Green Line for one month to make necessary repairs and improvements. The Orange Line will close starting Friday, August 19, and the Green Line will close from Government Center to Union Square station starting Monday, August 22.  

Applications Open for 66 Affordable Rental Units at Assembly Row

Mayor Katjana Ballantyne and the City of Somerville Housing Division are pleased to announce a rental lottery for 66 income-restricted units at Alta Revolution in Assembly Row (290 Revolution Drive), available through the City’s Inclusionary Housing Program. Units are available to households making at or below 50%, 80%, and 110% of the Area Median Income (AMI). Studio, one-, two-, and three-bedroom units are available. The first apartments will be ready for occupancy this December. 

Somerville Cyclist Fatally Injured on Broadway

On Friday, August 12, a 72-year-old Somerville man was fatally injured in a collision while cycling near 1055 Broadway just outside of Teele Square. Somerville Police officers responded to the report of the crash at 11:20 a.m. The operator of the vehicle involved remained at the scene and is cooperating with the investigation. The cyclist was transported to Massachusetts General Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.

Somerville to Host “The Moving Wall” Vietnam Veterans Memorial, November 10-14

Mayor Katjana Ballantyne and the City of Somerville invite you to a design workshop for 90 Washington Street, a 4-acre site near the East Somerville Green Line station envisioned as the future home of a new Public Safety Building and a range of civic, commercial, and residential uses. This is the latest engagement event for the 90 Washington Street project, coming after a series of community meetings and listening sessions held earlier this year. At this workshop, participants can use LEGOs to design their ideal redevelopment of the site.

Somerville Hiring Polling Place Workers for 2022 Election Cycle

The City of Somerville is hiring polling place workers for the upcoming 2022 election cycle. Hundreds of poll workers will be needed this year to conduct a successful election. Interested residents are encouraged to attend an information session on Thursday, July 28, to learn more.  General Duties  Poll workers are encouraged to commit to working both election days: Tuesday, September 6, and Tuesday, November 8. Each workday starts at 6:30 a.m. and ends after the polls close at 8 p.m., with a two-hour break. Poll workers serve in one of the following roles:
